Suspect arrested in abduction of boy, 10
A man was arrested Thursday in the kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy who was walking in Miami last month.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Arlen Freyre, 28, faces charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, battery and interference with custody in the Dec. 4 incident.
Emmett Greene, 10, told Local 10 he was walking with a friend in the 3300 block of Northwest 27th Avenue about 8:50 p.m. that night when an SUV drove up. According to police, a man in the SUV asked Emmett, "Is your mom looking for you?" and then grabbed him.
"I tried to jump out, but he yanked my shirt," Emmett said.
The boy and his friend struggled with the man, but he was able to get the boy into his vehicle and drive away.
"I tried kicking and punching him and tried to escape," Emmett said. "He told me don't touch nothing… and put my hands behind my back."
Police said the child continued to fight and kicked the gearshift in an attempt to stop the SUV. Freyre ordered the boy out of the SUV at Northwest First Avenue and Northwest 96th Street in Miami Shores, the FDLE said.
"I don't know why he let me go," Emmett said.
Once he was free, Emmett went up to a woman and asked her to call police. The child wasn't injured, police said.
Freyre was arrested Thursday and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he is being held on a no-bond warrant.
